NY Times Finds North Dakota

I guess it should be noted when the New York Times finds something of interest in the state, and particularly when it pertains to its oil patch.

The New York Times almost got it right, but not quite. The Parshall field is located a couple miles north of Parshall, and a couple miles west, and is 20 miles or more from Stanley as the crow flies. Stanley becomes the center of actifity for all the people checking the deed books at the Mountrail county court house, but is not at the center of the drilling activity. Some people, including a few at EOG perhaps, are thinking that the Parshall field will eventually connect to the old oil field south and East of Stanley as one much larger field, but that is not a certainty. The successful Austin Township wells are like a piece in a jig saw puzzle that would support the theory at least that the Parshall and old Stanley fields are indeed part of a single, much larger field, as the Austin township wells are on a line more or less midway between Parshall and Stanley.
I notice also that EOG has permitted wells that expand the widest part of the Parshall Field a mile west and a mile east of the apparent original boundaries, making the field 8+ miles wide at its widest, not 6 miles wide.

My congratulations to Johnny Warberg for making the New York Times!

Is Behm doing the actual drilling? THey aren't listed as a driller on any of the wells on the current confidential list. You need to watch the daily activity reports each evening for updates on the permits. That Web Site is

David do you know how long it takes for a drilling rig to complete a job and then move on to the next, when they do a horizontal like in the parshall area..thanks..

It has been taking EOG 2 1/2 to 3 months to complete the wells in the parshall area.

It usually takes 25 to 35 days for the drilling rig to get to total depth on these Bakken wells.

Then another 6 weeks to complete the well after the rig has been moved to its next location.

Does anyone think that once EOG has completed the wells they have permitted will go back in and make these wells multi-lateral horizontals. I know in Saudi Arabia horizontal multi-lateral wells are very common, I just don't know if they can go back in, say 5 years down the road and add new laterals?

I guess they could, but I dont think that is where EOG is headed. They have shown an interest in drilling a third well on a 1280 acre spacing across two 640 acre sections already with lateral wells and we will eventually see the consequences of that across the Bartelson and Patten sections

Hi,

What a great Blog. Just found this today. My folks have mineral rights on the southern parts of Stanley, so will be checking in here to take advantage of the knowledge on this blog. Thanks to whoever got it going.

I do have a question, how does one find/see where/if permits have been issued to drill?

Thanks.
